The Savvy Scientist Affiliate Policy

I run this website to help people and this will always remain its main goal.

I am though happy for the website to pay for itself (and potentially even generate a profit one day!) as long as that income doesn’t compromise my values.

Currently the website is being run at a loss and I’d like it to be sustainable to ensure I can carry on providing useful information. Additionally, I have some plans I’d love to put in to action to expand beyond this website to be able to reach as many young potential scientists as possible and generating an income is critical to making this happen.

What are affiliate links?

Some companies run affiliate programs: paying existing customers to refer new customers to them. Not all companies offer them, but if I use a service and want to promote it I’ll include an affiliate link to them so that this website can get some credit for bringing the new customer.

All affiliate links on the website are clearly labelled as such.

My values

I will only ever include affiliate links to products or service that I: use, recommend and want to promote. This means there are instances where I might use a service yet don’t want to include affiliate links so as to not promote them.

I am very conscious of issues relating to ethics, human (and animal) rights and the environment.

This website does not take part in the Amazon affiliate scheme: I don’t like how Amazon currently operate plus I don’t want to push users of this website to unnecessarily buy anything. Maybe if Amazon change their practices and there is a sustainable product I love then I’ll start up but I am making conscious decisions to not monetise certain potential streams. This means I can sleep better at night.

Some of my favourite services don’t have affiliate programs yet I’ll always continue to try and get the word out about them. For example: Ecosia, are you using it yet?!

Not all companies offer affiliate links, it won’t stop me from promoting them though: https://www.ecosia.org

Thanks!

Jeff

Shoutout to Mr Money Mustache whose affiliate policy blurb very much inspired the wording of this one. If you’ve not been on MMM before, you’re in for a treat.
